Testicular Self Exam (TSE)

We encourage all of our male patients to do a monthly Testicular Self Exam (TSE). Much as women are advised to do a monthly Breast Self Exam, men should also do their TSE to catch any potential abnormalities of the testicles.

A TSE is best done after a warm bath or shower when the scrotal tissue will be more relaxed.

To do a TSE, follow the following steps:

  1. While standing, place thumbs on the front surface of the testicle.
  2. Support the testicle by using your index and middle fingers on both hands.
  3. Gently roll your testicle between the fingers and thumb.

You are feeling for lumps, hardness or thickening, especially when compared with the other testicle.

If you have any questions, your physician will be glad to show you how to perform this test.

If you find any abnormalities, please call your primary care physician or our office to schedule an appointment.
